The timely intervention of doctors at Sebaashray camp has saved the life of a nine-year-old boy.

The nine-year-old Altaf Hosen Ghorami had visited one of the Sebaashray camps in Diamond Harbour with his father. The initial medical reports showed some medical complications. Examining the reports, the doctors referred him to the model camp, which has been set at the SDO ground for advanced diagnosis. The doctors detected a hole in his heart and this was causing major problems over the years. Altaf was found suffering from Cyanotic heart disease. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of the local MP, Abhishek Banerjee. Mr Banerjee took up the matter with the authorities of Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital and the surgery will be conducted shortly.

Mr Banerjee assured that all the medical expenses will be provided to the boy, including the surgery.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old person Hossain Mollick, who had fainted at one of the medical camps yesterday, is recuperating at a state-run hospital.

Forty one camps have been set up in the area that fall under Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. The footfall on day four in these camps is 15,785. A total of 8,467 patients have been treated while 8,108 people were given medicines free-of-cost. Around 360 patients have been referred to hospitals.

This is for the first time when such an initiative has been taken up by an MP. The camps will be held in all the Assembly segments and after that five day long follow up camps will be held. There is overwhelming response from the people living in the Diamond Harbour Assembly seat,

At Bagda Taj Club Sebaashray camp, swift response of the doctors and volunteers on-site helped Sadika Sultana, a 9-year-old girl who had met with an accident. She was promptly referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College for urgent treatment.

Ali Hossein Molla, father of the girl, said, “My daughter suffered injuries in an accident. We came to Bagda Taj Club camp from where we were referred to Diamond Harbour Hospital where we received very good treatment. I also thank the volunteers at Sebaashray camp for assisting us promptly.”

Like Sadika, Pritikona Ghosh and Narain Maity also got treatment at the medical camps and expressed their gratitude for the Diamond Harbour MP. Puja Mondal from Mandir Bazaar said, “Abhishek sir has thought a lot for us.”
